As urban transportation systems continue to modernize, ensuring the reliability of emergency power supply has become a critical safety requirement. In a recent deployment, DFUN proudly delivered a comprehensive Battery Monitoring System (BMS) solution to the Prague Metro system in the Czech Republic, safeguarding their 2V VRLA backup battery banks used in critical emergency operations.
Project Overview
To maintain reliable operation during power outages or emergencies, the Czech Metro has integrated a powerful battery backup system, one of the lines using 216 pieces of 2V VRLA batteries manufactured by HOPPECKE. These batteries are central to the metro’s emergency lighting, signaling, and communication systems.
To monitor and maintain the battery bank efficiently, the metro selected DFUN’s PBMS9000 main controller and PBAT61 battery sensors.
Why DFUN PBMS9000 + PBAT61
The PBMS9000 system is specifically designed for large-scale VRLA battery applications such as data centers, transportation systems, and utility backup power. For the Prague Metro case, it delivered:
24/7 real-time online monitoring of voltage, temperature, internal resistance, SOC, SOH, and charge/discharge current
Ring communication topology ensuring continuous data flow even in the event of a partial communication failure
Built-in webpage monitoring interface with intuitive dashboards for trend analysis and battery diagnostics
Multi-protocol compatibility: Modbus-TCP, SNMP, IEC61850, and MQTT.
5-year historical data storage and auto-alarm functions via SMS/Email for proactive maintenance.
Each of the 216 HOPPECKE 2V VRLA batteries was monitored individually using the PBAT61 sensor, which measures:
Battery voltage (accuracy ±0.2%)
Internal temperature (±1°C)
Internal impedance (range: 0.1mΩ–50mΩ)
Balancing control to maintain voltage uniformity across the string
Results and Benefits
Since deployment, the Prague Metro has seen a notable improvement in battery system reliability and fault detection. The DFUN BMS provides metro operators with:
Early warning of cell failure or imbalance
Data-driven maintenance scheduling
Reduced risk of unplanned downtime
Enhanced safety and operational efficiency
Global Reach, Local Excellence
This successful project in the Czech Republic is another milestone in DFUN’s global expansion across Europe, where its smart battery solutions are increasingly being adopted in critical infrastructure sectors. DFUN's commitment to "quality-first, service-prioritized" continues to win the trust of international clients from transportation to telecom and data center industries.
